Abstract
Micro electronics play an important role in technology. Chips are more and more applied in traffic and transport. The European PROMETHEUS program finance research for automatization which should decrease the number of accidents with 50% in short time. Existing applications for individual road users and highway administrators are discussed. Expectations for the near future and wanted new developments are outlined. The role of the government in the guidance for the use of electronics in traffic is stressed.
