Abstract

INFORM (INformation FOR Motorists) is a major computerized ATMS that has been in operation since 1987. It covers Long Island, New York, a 35 mile central corridor, comprising the Island's major East/West highways and their busiest North/South connecting routes. Emergency management is a major element of the existing and evolving program. INFORM is the largest traffic management system in the United States and operates 24 hours per day/seven days per week. Brief details of the systems design are provided in this paper.
