Abstract

The European Union (EU) Commission aims in its E-Maritime approach to further develop the pan-European maritime information infrastructure. The EU project MarNIS proposes such a structure for 2012-2020. Ship reporting through Single Window will reduce reporting burden of ships. MarNIS proposes proactive and preventive measures to minimize risk. A common architecture will facilitate a pan-European shared understanding of issues. The project is identifying amendments to the existing EU legal framework. Implementation of results should be handled by Member States assisted by the European Commission. The objective of the proposed project MIMOSA is to develop a plan for implementation of the MarNIS results.
