Abstract

Local and regional authorities co-operate to implement a regional RDS-TMC traffic information service in the Rotterdam-Rijnmond area. The in-car information service is part of the Rotterdam Dynamic Traffic Management policy. More than 20 test drivers participated in a test that used vehicles equipped with an on-board receiver allowing for having immediate access to messages at any time. User acceptance and how far drivers are better informed were major assessment objectives addressed in an evaluation study. The paper presents the main evaluation results. Key finding is the quantified increase in level of being informed, indicated by the number of trips by car in which the driver is well informed on traffic conditions on his route.
