Abstract

This energy-absorbing system i.e. 'a aix box beam guardrail. Four full-scale crash tests ware conducted to de determine the capabilities of the system. The basic element of the energy-absorbing bridge rail is a 3-in round fragmenting aluminium tube. The horizontal tube blocks out the boxbeam from the support poste end is fragmented at impact. Three tests ware conducted on the bridge rail and a fourth tests was run on the transition zone between the guardrail and the bridge rail.
