Abstract

The paper concentrates on the UK road transport sector and focuses on the potential market penetration in the UK of new motor vehicle technologies and their effects on fuel consumption. Energy efficiency improvements arising from the competition for market share between motor vehicle manufacturers, from developments in engine technology aimed at meeting environmental emissions controls and from more widespread diffusion of existing technologies are examined.
