Abstract

In South Australia cyclists' needs are considered in all road improvement proposals. Exclusive bicycle lanes have been installed on some roads, but have not achieved the same level of public approval and acceptance as other treatments, except where intended parking is also provided. Wide kerbside lanes allow cyclists to travel adjacent to either moving or parked motor vehicles, and offer greater flexibility in meeting fluctuations in traffic requirements.
