Abstract

Some considerations on stochastic processed in road traffic. Problems arising in the theory of vehicular traffic flow are often examples of stochastic processes. The main goal of the paper is to give and idea of the types of the problems involved. An elementary parking problem is discussed. The classical queuing formulas for a queuing system with N servers are applied to queuing at a custom house. Queuing at traffic lights and optimalization of the green-red cycles are considered and illustrated by some numerical examples. Finally, the paper discusses the delay which may occur when crossing a traffic stream; for this case numerical results are given for the average delay.
