Abstract

85% of neck-injuries from automobile-accidents are caused by rear-end impacts. 20% of all accidents are rear-ending impacts. High speed motion pictures of experimental rear-end impacts with anthropomorphic dummies as passengers have revealed that the head and neck wrap around the top of the seat back. Head restraints reduce or prevent neck injuries.
