Abstract

This chapter discusses epidemiological aspects beginning with the scope of the drunk driving problem from epidemiologic perspective. A brief outline of the major components involved in studying the problem by means of the available data sources is followed by a review of the relevant literature focusing on alcohol involvement in fatal as well as nonfatal highway crashes and in noncrash drivers; crash risks and alcohol; and characteristics of drunk drivers.
