Abstract

Epidemiological studies indicate that about 50% of all fatal accidents in the U.S. involve alcohol. They suggest also that the presence of blood alcohol contents more than 0. 08%, young age, and male sex may be the three most significant risk factors associated with a fatal automobile crash. Both licit and illicit drugs may also be contributing risk factors, especially when used in combination with alcohol.
