Abstract

Shifts of the frequencies and causes of head injuries in the environs of the city of Groningen were studied on data of patients examined by the co-workers of the department of neurology, comparing data of the periods 1971-1972, 1974-1975 and 1977-1978. It proved that in the period 1974-1975, in which traffic laws, such as introduction of speed limits, alcohol prohibition in traffic and the obligation of wearing moped-helmets considerably decreased the severity and the number of those accidents. A few years later the number of accidents influenced by alcohol-intoxication had increased dreadfully by the carelessness of traffic laws fulfilment.
