This paper described ergonomics research conducted in the framework of the European project SAFERIDER, funded within the 7th Framework-Program of the DG Information Society & Media. This project aims to study the potential of ADAS/IVIS integration on motorcycles and to develop efficient and rider-friendly interfaces for comfort and safety. The first step was to identify existing products and prototypes of information and communication systems for Powered-Two-Wheelers (PTW) and to produce a benchmarking database. The second step was to realize an ergonomic inspection of selected existing products. It allowed identifying which ergonomics choices regarding IVIS functions would be the more relevant in terms of usability and safety for the riders. To run this process, specific methodology has been set up, based upon international checklist of evaluation used in the automotive domain, but adapted and revised according to the specific context of the riding activity. Design recommendations have been produced.
