With increasing leisure traffic, demand for real-time, cross-border traffic and tourist information rises too. Therefore European automobile clubs have founded the European Road Centre ERIC with the aim to foster cooperation between ERIC members and exchange current traffic information. The introduction of an advanced computer network called ERIC 2000 Information System has made the exchange of low-cost, real-time traffic and tourist information between the clubs possible. Today low-cost traffic and tourist information service can already be offered.
