Abstract

The coordination of traffic lights on arterial streets can be achieved by maximizing the bandwidth or by attempting to minimize delays and stops encountered on the artery as well an on the side streets. Both of these approaches have advantages which are partially retained in a compromise solution described here. That is, a green band is selected from among several possible bands causing the least delay and stops to the drivers.
