Abstract
Solid sound and vibration immissions which can result during the construction and subsequent use of a road deserve greater consideration. All too often, these problems are not considered until complaints are registered from local inhabitants. It is then often too late to justify expenditure on rapid improvements. First moves towards precautionary protection measures include the precautionary analysis of the situation and of possible risks. The methods used in Switzerland are described.
