Abstract

Main problems generally encountered in the application of mathematical models to urban and regional planning are indicated and discussed. In practice some tools were developed in order to overcome the mentioned difficulties. The discussion here is specifically focused on the transportation aspects. Suggestions are made that the so-called optimum solutions of linear programming models have to be seen rather as a basis for discussion and better results in the future than as fixed and immovable result.
