This article outlines the increasing regulation of emissions and greenhouse gases, with reference to the transport industry in the UK. The application of technology to support moves to reduce emissions and create alternative energy sources has increased in line with the need for compliance. Early targets are now seen as insufficient. In the UK measures include changes to vehicle excise duty, company car tax and car labelling for carbon dioxide emissions. Suppliers are required to offer biofuels. Public perception can be used to introduce changes. Technology is also employed to monitor and manage emissions and the effect of new measures. Companies and individuals need to assess their impact on the environment.
