Abstract

It was found that, for the sample of towns studied, the percentage of the space occupied by roads and footpaths in the central area of a town is related to the size of the town; linear relationships have been obtained. For example percentage (excl. footpath) area= 0.016P + 12,7 where P is the population in units of one thousand. A description of the methods adopted to obtain these result is included.
