Abstract

This paper describes the key results derived from a research aiming to test the feasibility of displaying travel times on long motorway journeys, during summer holiday trips. The network concerned is composed of the A7 and A9 motorways in south of France, particularly loaded during summer holidays. After a presentation of various approaches for travel time estimation, an algorithm of calculation of the travel time is developed and validated by a comparison with a floating-car survey. An online prediction model of this travel time is then presented. The conclusion synthesises the conditions of diffusion of the information relative to travel times, on interurban motorway networks.
