Estimating community effects of highways.

Abstract

Techniques for identifying fragile neighbourhoods that should be avoided in locating highways are described. Preliminary use of this approach suggests that low-density, suburban neighbourhoods can tolerate freeways better than neighbourhoods with higher than average percentages of poor, old, young or carless people or minority groups.
