Abstract

This paper develops a method for estimating earthwork volumes using Monte Carlo simulation. The paper illustrates how a completely deterministic problem can be solved using a probabilistic simulation. The method is primarily developed for cut and fill sections. The results show that the simulation method improves the estimates of earthwork volumes compared with the existing mathematical methods. (A)
