Abstract

Car navigation systems can calculate expected travel times to destinations and can avoid traffic jams using traffic information. This paper proposes a method of creating statistical traffic information aggregated by the day types, which have similar trends to those in historical traffic data. The paper also describes the methods of interpolation, which estimate the traffic around big cities from the statistical traffic information, targeting the development of car navigation systems in Europe. The paper also reports the evaluation results of our proposed methods.
