Abstract

The aim of this paper is to estimate the reduction effect of Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV) technologies to the fatal accidents related to passenger cars in Japan. According to the Study Group for Promotion of ASV, established under the Ministry of Transport, the number of fatal accidents reduced by ASV technologies has been calculated, and the results show that the highest contribution technology has been Automatic Collision Detection and Prevention System which could account for a reduction of more than two thousand accidents.
