Abstract

This research analyzes origin-destination patterns for zoned cities using a transition matrix, each element of which gives the transition probability for the movement of vehicles from one zone to another. The analysis is developed so that estimates can be made of current and future traffic patterns. Several examples are provided comparing these predicted volumes with actual traffic.
