Abstract

Electronic toll collection (ETC) systems electronically and automatically process highway tolls, an undertaking which requires high security. This paper focuses on security measures relating to in-vehicle equipment (IVE). Because IVE is handled directly by the end user, the driver, it has the highest possibility of unauthorized use. In the following paper, the authors examine IVE security measures required for each stage of use: production, issuance, operation and disposal of the IVE.
