Abstract

The general safety work carried out in Le Mans in the last few years and the results obtained are described. The number of injury accidents decreased by over a quarter from 1977- 1983. An example of a local safety action is given. An accidented pedestrian crossing was removed, bus- stops relocated, one- way streets inverted, a cycle track made and traffic signals with special phases for pedestrians and two- wheelers constructed.
