Abstract

With a view to a better awareness of the families' living conditions, INRETS (France) initiated a series of studies on the mobility of low income groups in 1994. After the study on non-motorized transport, a further study relating to the mobility of low income persons in urban areas was initiated. The SOTRAC (la Societe des Transports en Commun du Cap Vert) crisis occurred in that time period, and it caused substantial changes in the attitudes of the company's customers. This paper discusses the inquiries carried out for the purpose of understanding the phenomenon. The English title of the paper is: "SOTRAC's customers' mobility changes study owing to the decline in the offer".
