Abstract

In 1980 eleven European countries and the EG edited a report on a common study into the possibilities of electronic aids as a solution for traffic problems on congested motorways. Eight problem areas are studied, to come to the most suitable regulation system, such as variable message signs, automatic detection of incidents, radio traffic information, weather information, matrix traffic signs etc. A proposal is given for a demonstration project in the Netherlands on the motorway Den Haag- Rotterdam.
