Abstract

DGT (the Spanish Traffic Road Authority), through the definition of an ACTION PLAN for the period 2001-2006, as an active participant in the Euro-regional projects SERTI and ARTS, and always in a spirit of public service, is making important progress in the development and implementation of harmonized traffic management systems, and convergence with national and regional strategic plans for the future Trans-European Road Network (TERN). The basic objectives to be covered can be defined in the following terms: safety, efficiency and continuity of services, environmental impact, extension and improvement of infrastructures and, finally, harmonized development of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) as part of the new "information society".
