Abstract

Development of the European Framework Architecture for ITS, realised in the KAREN project, is now (November '99) in its final stages. A European set of user needs, a functional architecture, a physical architecture and a communications architecture have been developed, as well as a cost-benefit report. Reports on deployment issues and on required standards are about to be released. Deployment scenarios and recommendations on architecture maintenance, R&D and follow-on activities are to follow soon. Dissemination and outreach are being intensified. It will be explained what effects are to be expected and how use and acceptance by the ITS community may be optimised. (A*)
