Abstract

More than 50% of the annual number of about 1500 traffic fatalities in the Netherlands die during the therapyless interval, deprived of any form of medical care. The therapyless interval may become extremely long in cases not witnessed by other road users. Unfavourable factors for early detection are: single- car accidents, accidents in rural areas (especially on low volume roads), and darkness. Statistical data show, that lethality is so much higher under these conditions, that the development of a system for early detection and communication could save many lives.
