Abstract

The Korvelseweg, a main road through the centre of Tilburg was redesigned and reconstructed with the aim to improve the safety. An evaluation was done to the effect of traffic engineering. There has been hardly any effect on the density of traffic, and the portion of through traffic has not decreased. The average speed is still much too high. In stead of the wanted 30 km /h the speed is still 60 km /h. The number of registered traffic accidents has decreased with 21%, but the number of near- misses has increased.
