Abstract

Improving the environment has recently taken on a more important role in the Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) community. Minnesota is conducting an initiative which uses LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology to evaluate the impacts of an Advanced Traffic Management System on the environment. This initiative is unique in that it not only evaluates the impacts of traffic measures, it also assesses the effectiveness of LIDAR images as an air quality monitoring and control tool. (A)
