Abstract

Driving simulator and road tests were conducted to evaluate an accelerator position signal (APS) on the rear of motor vehicles. The signal was provided by a green lamp when the accelerator was depressed, a yellow lamp when the accelerator was released, and a red lamp (in addition to the usual stop lamps) when the brakes were applied. Responses of other motorists exposed to the system are discussed in this paper.
