Abstract

Considering the importance of asset management, Japan Highway Public Corporation (JH) has studied the development of a logical frame of asset management systems and the establishment of practical implementation methods. This report introduces recent studies of JH's asset management, and a steel bridge coating deterioration degree diagnosis system (Paint View) is explained in detail. Paint View is the system that makes objective as well as quantitative evaluations of coating deterioration using a computer image processing technology of steel bridge coatings by digital cameras. As a result, life cycle costs are mentioned based on the evaluated deterioration curve and remaining life of coating. These evaluations are based on the analysis of overall steel bridges on nationwide expressways in Japan (about 2,400 bridges) that are obtained by statistical data processing and engineering analysis using the result of diagnosis by Paint View.
