Abstract

The NHTSA staff evaluated the actual costs, benefits andcrash performance of current energy-absorbing steeringassemblies as part of its review of existing major regu-lations. Energy absorbing steering assemblies have signi-ficantly reduced deaths and serious injuries and they aretost-effectave. Nevertheless, mant' serious injuries toths- thorax and other body regions still occur with thecurrent systems.
