Abstract

Details are given of an investigation into the economic justification of building and maintaining a median lane at approaches of suburban and rural intersections. Delays and accidents to trough vehicles caused by left-turning traffic were compared at eleven intersections and a method was developed to determine when the construction of a median lane is economically justified.
