Abstract

In Austria, two methods are applied to increase road safety: The first method is based on the attempt to influence the road users'attitudes by means of road safety campaigns and appeals to their maturity and responsibility and thus to change their traffic behaviour into a positive direction. The second method is based on traffic engineering and vehicle engineering as well as legal measures and their consequent enforcement which forces the road users to behave in a desirable way.
