Abstract

A study was conducted to assess the impact of a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) on seat belt usage in the Ottawa area. The program consisted of greater police surveillance, increased charging of violators and mass media publicity of the program. The S.T.E.P. was found to be an effective method of increasing seat belt usage to 80%.
