Abstract

A ramped-end terminal for heavy-post, blocked-out W-beam median barrier was evaluated through full-scale crash tests and ins-service performance documentation. Ten ful scale crash tests were performed with 2250- and 4500 lb sedans at about 35 and 60 mph and for 0o, 15o, and 25l impacts at various locations on the terminal. Test results were generally good in terms of vehicle accelerations and occupant-vehicle impact velocities. Results of some tests were marginal in terms of post-impact vehicle stability and trajectory.
