Abstract

Travel time estimation is the essential function of the route guidance system (RGS) and advanced traveler information system (ATIS). However, the traffic flow is so changeable and complex that it is very difficult to predict the real travel time accurately. In this paper, the shortest travel time is estimated by the revised Dijkstra algorithm using the recent average directional link travel time, and the estimated time is compared with the result of the simulation model. ITRAF is used to make virtual traffic network model, and TRAF-NETSIM is used to simulate the traffic situation and predict dynamic link travel time. The estimated shortest travel time and path are sensitive to starting time and traffic signal. (A*)
