Abstract

Regulations on side impact safety are being prepared in Europe and in the USA. On both continents, the regulations aim at the protection of occupants in the event of a side impact collision, however the drafts prescribe different test methods in which different types of side impact dummies are used. This paper presents the results of five full- scale side impact tests, applied to identical vehicles using SID and EUROSID dummies as well as the NHTSA crabbed and EEC non- crabbed moving deformable barriers.
