Abstract

On the 1st of March 1988, a new regulation was introduced which made existing "keep left unless overtaking" signs regulatory in the state of Victoria. This regulation prohibits traffic from using the right hand lane except where a vehicle is overtaking or turning right, where "keep left unless overtaking" signs apply. This study examines whether there are any effects of the regulation and accompanying publicity and enforcement on driving behaviour at freeway and divided arterial road locations throughout Victoria.
