Abstract

This investigation evaluated the current effectiveness of various delineation devices and of protective guardrail in reducing reported accidents. Protective guardrail is effective at locations of poor alignment or at two lane bridges. Metal plate guardrail appears more effective than metal beam guardrail. It is recommended that a continuous delineation device must be developed for out-of-control vehicles to pass through it without serious injury to the vehicle.
