Abstract

In the connection of a DRIVE project an evaluation of the development of short range microwave links for road traffic informatics (RTI) and an analysis of the requirements concerning these links has been made. This analysis has led to a more extensive reflection on the interest and feasibility of the electronic aids involving these links. The object of the paper is to present the main results of this work. After a short presentation of the main electronic aids which have been considered, the authors examine the adequacy of the links with regard to different criteria like the required range and directivity, the sensitivity to propagation disturbances, the requirements in matter of safety and of vehicle positioning.
