Abstract

This report describes the trial of a red light camera at a pedestrian operated signal crossing and its results. The effectiveness of this trial was evaluated by the number of vehicles running a red light before and after the installation of camera and "red light camera ahead" warning signs. Whilst the results show that the number of run red offences was substantially reduced, no crossing has yet been identified to warrant the installation of a red light camera which would be cost effective as an accident reduction measure.
