Abstract

This paper was prepared for the purpose of analyzing the road accident statistics available at Brazilian State Highway Department (Detrans) websites; evaluating them according to the procedures established by the Brazilian System of Road Accident Statistics (SINET) and comparing them to the main international road accident databases. It was perceived that, despite Brazilian Internet users being amongst the world's greatest utilizers of government sites and the word Detran being one of the most researched expressions in Brazilian search tools, the presentation of the statistics on those sites is incomplete, with no standardization, and does not facilitate its use in reliable and productive ways (A). For the covering abstract of the conference see E217780.
