Abstract

This paper reports the substance of simulator and field studies investigating the behavioral effects of the prototype `GIDS' driver support system. The essential comparison was between behaviour when supported in a non-integrated form (separate support components acting independently and without taking momentary driver workload into account) and in an integrated form (where support components acted as a function of momentary workload). It was found that GIDS support, whether of an integrated or a non-integrated nature, is capable of inducing beneficial behavioral effects. (A)
