Abstract

Two different computer programs have been developed for a two-dimensional and a three-dimensional crash victim model. In this study the three-dimensional model is tested in comparison with the two-dimensional model. A test run of the two-dimensional model is simulated with the SWOV-TNO three-dimensional model in three planes of the three-dimensional space. Through simulations in the yz-plane, xy-plane and xz-plane major mistakes and programming faults are eliminated. The plots of these simulations, compared with those of the two-dimensional test, show a very good conformity of both models and of the three different planes. The simulated movements are planar motions, so the need of testing the model for three-dimensional spatial movements still exists. In the near future these tests will be performed with the aid of the calspan-3d crash victim simulation program (CVS-III version 16). (Author/publisher)
